Why EES?
Modern electronics is getting ever faster and smaller. Dense integration results in more powerful products. On the other hand shorter switching rise times produce higher emission radio spectra. Furthermore small sized microelectronics is naturally more sensitive. This leads to increased immunity problems.
» What is EMC (German = "EMV")?
System size can be anything from small Printed Circuit Boards/Devices/Equipment/ Apparatus/ Subsystems/Subassemblies/Racks to physically large, fixed installations. Systems can be portable, mobile, on the ground, over/under water or in the air.
EM-Environments are manifold: Electromagnetic (EM) Emissions, immunity in frequency / time domain. There are conducted and radiated EM-Phenomena. They may range almost from “DC to Daylight” or down to pico-seconds (10 E-12). Amplitudes can be very small e.g. a few Micro Volts/m (10E-6) to extremely high electrical field strength levels of many kV /m (10E+3).
Market Surveillance / Real World Cases of Problems
The German Government Authority Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) in cooperation with German Customs performed an annual Market Surveillance 2016 in EMC / Radio, for the first time checking 986.789 products, including e-Commerce. Products originated from Germany, EU and Third Countries. Non-Compliance with EMC-D: 38.9% (failed products) Non-Compliance with R&TTE-D (Radio): 50.4 % (failed products), 90 % products showed risks in electrical safety! In 9383 cases a legal import ban was executed for products originating from third countries.
